Guidance comes from Allah. The journey of spiritual evolution is not one we can undertake through our own strength alone; at every step, we are dependent upon Allah’s help and guidance.

Allah states in Surah Al-Lail

But Whom does Allah guide?

Allah states in Surah Al-Baqarah:

So, what kind of belief (Imaan) makes us worthy of Allah’s friendship and deserving of His Divine guidance?

Allah states in Surah Al-Ankabut:

Do people imagine that it is enough for them to say: We believe; and that they will not be tried?

And We did test those who were before them. So Allah will surely distinguish those who are truthful and He will surely distinguish the liars from the truthful. (29:3-4)

Thus True belief is not just a claim—it is proven through action.

So, what action has Allah placed before us in this age as a condition for demonstrating the sincerity of our faith?

اَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ اَنۡ یُّتۡرَکُوۡۤا اَنۡ یَّقُوۡلُوۡۤا اٰمَنَّا وَہُمۡ لَا یُفۡتَنُوۡنَ ﴿۳﴾وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ فَلَیَعۡلَمَنَّ اللّٰہُ الَّذِیۡنَ صَدَقُوۡا وَلَیَعۡلَمَنَّ الۡکٰذِبِیۡنَ ﴿۴﴾

کیا لوگ یہ گمان کر بیٹھے ہیں کہ یہ کہنے پر کہ ہم ایمان لے آئے وہ چھوڑ دیئے جائیں گے اور آزمائے نہیں جائیں گے؟

اور ہم یقیناً اُن لوگوں کو جو اُن سے پہلے تھے آزمائش میں ڈال چکے ہیں۔ پس وہ لوگ جو سچے ہیں اللہ انہیں ضرور شناخت کر لے گا اور جھوٹوں کو بھی ضرور پہچان جائے گا۔

The Promised Messiah (as) states in The Will:

جو لوگ اس الٰہی انتظام پر اطلاع پا کر بلا توقف اس فکر میں پڑتے ہیں کہ دسواں حصہ کل جائداد کا خدا کی راہ میں دیں بلکہ اس سے بھی زیادہ اپنا جوش دکھلاتے ہیں وہ اپنی ایمانداری پر مہر لگا دیتے ہیں۔

“Those who, having been informed of this Divine scheme (Al-Wasiyyat), become anxious, immediately and without hesitation, to subscribe one tenth of their property in the way of Allah—nay, they even show greater fervour—set the seal on their faithfulness.” (The Will)

پس اسی غرض سے یہ اشتہار (الوصیۃ) میں نے خدا تعالیٰ کے اذن سے دیا ہے۔

تا آئندہ کے لیے اشاعت دین کا سامان ہو اور تا لوگوں کو معلوم ہو کہ اٰمَنَّا وَصَدَّقْنَا کہنے والوں کی عملی حالت کیا ہے۔ یقیناً سمجھو کہ جب تک انسان کی عملی حالت درست نہ ہو زبان کچھ چیز نہیں۔ یہ نری لاف گزاف ہے۔ زبان تک جو ایمان رہتا ہے اور دل میں داخل ہو کر اپنا اثر عملی حالت پر نہیں ڈالتا وہ منافق کا ایمان ہے۔ سچا ایمان وہی ہے جو دل میں داخل ہو اور اس کے اعمال کو اپنے اثر سے رنگین کر دے۔

“So I have issued this announcement (The Will) with the permission of God for this very purpose, so that provisions may be made for the future propagation of the faith, and so that people may understand the practical condition of those who say ‘We believe and affirm’.

You Need Not Wait Until You Are Worthy. Wasiyyat Does Not Require Perfection — It Produces It

"There is no doubt that only a true believer commits to Wasiyyat. But there is also no doubt that if a person has some weaknesses in him, but then joins Wasiyyat, according to this promise of Allah that only those deserving heaven will be buried in Bahasti-Maqbarah, gets a chance to correct his actions. So Wasiyyat is the perfect way to self-reformation, because who ever will join Nizaam-e- Wasiyyat, even if at a certain time he is not deserving of paradise, he will become deserving of it.”

اس میں شبہ نہیں کہ مومن ہی وصیت کرتا ہے۔ لیکن اس میں بھی شبہ نہیں کہ اگر کسی شخص میں کچھ کمزوریاں بھی پائی جاتی ہوں تو جب وہ وصیت کرے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے اس وعدہ کے مطابق کہ بہشتی مقبرہ میں صرف جنتی مدفون ہوں گے، اس کے اعمال کو درست کر دیتا ہے۔ پس وصیت اصلاحِ نفس کازبردست ذریعہ ہے کیونکہ جو بھی وصیت کرے گا اگر وہ ایک وقت میں جنتی نہیں تو بھی وہ جنتی بنا دیا جائے گا اور اگر اعمال اس کے زیادہ خراب ہیں تو خدا اس کی نفاقی کو ظاہر کر کے اسے وصیت سے الگ کر دے گا۔ غرض وصیت کرنے والے کو یا تو اللہ تعالیٰ اصلاحِ نفس کی توفیق دے کر جنتی بنا دے گا یا اسے وصیت سے الگ کر کے اس کے نفاق کو ظاہر کر دے گا۔

"Wasiyyat does not mean merely to sacrifice one tenth of one’s property. Rather it is a system which lifts man from the depths of the earth and elevates him to the heights of heaven."

“As to the men that give alms, and the women that give alms, and those who lend to Allah a goodly loan — it will be increased manifold for them, and theirs will also be an honorable reward” (57:19)

حضرت مسیحِ موعود ؑ پھر فرماتے ہیں ہر مومن کے ایمان کی آزمائش اس میں ہے کہ وہ اس نظام میں داخل ہو اور خدا تعالیٰ کے خاص فضل حاصل کرے۔ صرف منافق ہی اس نظام سے باہررہیگا۔ گویا کسی پر جبر نہیں مگرساتھ ہی یہ بھی فرما دیا کہ اس میں تمہارے ایمانوں کی آزمائش ہے اگر تم جنت لینا چاہتے ہو تو تمہارے لئے ضروری ہے کہ تم یہ قربانی کرو، ہاں اگر جنت کی قدر و قیمت تمہارے دل میں نہیں تو اپنے مال اپنے پاس رکھو ہمیں تمہارے اموال کی ضرورت نہیں۔

“The Promised Messiah (as) goes on to say that the test of every believer is that he should participate in this scheme (The Will) and should seek the special grace of God by this means. He announced that only hypocrites will keep out of this scheme. In other words, the scheme is voluntary, but is, at the same time, a test of your faith. If you are anxious to win the pleasure of God and to deserve real Paradise you must make this sacrifice. If, on the other hand, these things have no value in your eyes, you can retain your properties in this world; neither God nor the Movement founded under His Command has any use for them.” (Nizam-e-Nau - Hazrat Khalifat ul Masih II ra)

”برادران\! مجھ سے بعض لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ہمارے بعض دوست چندے دیتے دیتے تھک گئے ہیں میں ان دوستوں کی رائے کو بالکل غلط سمجھتا ہوں۔ وہ جو تھک گیا وہ ہمارا دوست نہیں۔ ہم چندہ دے کر خدا تعالیٰ پر احسان نہیں کرتے بلکہ خدا تعالیٰ ہم پر احسان کرتا ہے۔ حضرت مسیح موعودؑ نے اپنی اولاد کو وصیت سے آزاد رکھا ہے۔ اس لئے میں وصیت کرنا خلافِ شریعت سمجھتا ہوں لیکن اس شکریہ میں کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہم پر یہ احسان کیا ہے اوسطاً پانچواں حصہ اپنی آمد کا چندوں اور لِلّٰہی کاموں میں خرچ کرتا ہوں بلکہ اس سے بھی زیادہ بلکہ میں تو گھر کے خرچ کے لئے جو قرض لیتا ہوں اس میں سے بھی چندہ ادا کرتا ہوں کیونکہ میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ اگر ہم اپنی ضرورتوں کیلئے قرض لیتے ہیں تو خدا تعالیٰ کیلئے قرض کیوں نہ لیں۔ حق یہی ہے کہ اگر ہم مالی قربانی جو سب سے ادنیٰ قربانی ہے پوری طرح نہیں کر سکتے تو دوسری قربانیاں جو اس سے زیادہ ہیں کب کر سکیں گے۔“

“A few of my friends have told me that some of our members are now tired of making the contributions, I simply responded by asserting that this is an erroneous notion. The one who is tired of paying contributions is not our friend; indeed we do no favor to God by contributing, rather it is His favor upon us. Hazrat Promised Messiah (AH) has exempted his children from joining Nizam-e-Wasiyyat, therefore I consider my participation in Wasiyyat against the Shariah, but for the sake of expressing my gratitude for Allah's favor upon us, I, on the average, contribute up to 1/5th or even more towards Chandahs and other Divine tasks. When I borrow money for household expenses, even then I contribute from these loans, as I believe that if we are able to borrow for our personal needs why can't we borrow for Divine needs. The truth of the matter is that if we are unable to make financial sacrifices that are the least among the sacrifices, how would we be able to offer other sacrifices that are far greater than these.”

مالی حالت کو درست کرنے کی ایک صورت وہ ہے جو حضرت مسیح موعود علیہ الصلوٰۃ والسلام نے الہامِ الٰہی سے مقرر فرمائی ہے اور وہ وصیت ہے۔ حضرت مسیح موعود علیہ الصلوٰۃ والسلام نے وصیت کو جزوِ ایمان قرار دیا ہے۔ احباب کو اس کی طرف توجہ کرنی چاہیے۔ (چند اہم اور ضروری امور۔ انوار العلوم جلد 11 صفحہ 83)

“One way of improving one’s financial condition is the one that the Promised Messiah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, established through Divine revelation, and that is Wasiyyat. The Promised Messiah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, declared Wasiyyat to be a part of faith. It is incumbent upon the members to turn their attention towards it .”

”یہ نظامِ وصیت بھی ذہنوں اور مالوں کو پاک کرنے کا ذریعہ ہے۔ \[…\] یہ مطلب ہے کہ پاک ذرائع سے کمائی ہوئی جو دولت ہے اس کو جب پاک مقاصد کے لئے خرچ کیا جائے گا تو اس سے تمہارے اندر جہاں روحانی تبدیلیاں پیدا ہوں گی وہاں تمہارے اموال و نفوس میں بھی بے انتہا برکت پڑے گی۔ جیسا کہ حضرت اقدس مسیح موعودؑ نے دعا کی ہے رسالہ الوصیت میں اور تین دفعہ یہ دعا کی ہے کہ ایسے لوگوں کو جو اس نظام میں شامل ہوں نیک اور پاک لوگوں کی جماعت بنا دے۔“

“This Nizam-e-Wasiyyat is also a means of purifying minds and wealth. \[…\] What this means is that when wealth earned through pure means is spent for pure purposes, then, along with producing spiritual changes within you, it will also bring immense blessings upon your wealth and your souls. Just as Hazrat Aqdas Masih Maud (as) has prayed in Risalah Al-Wasiyyat — and he made this prayer three times — that those who join this system may be made a community of righteous and pure people.”

“At times, it has been observed that there are some well-to-do and prosperous people who, when called upon to render other services for the Jama’at, are among the foremost to respond to such appeals. Or, at the very least, they certainly participate to the fullest extent possible. Yet, they remain deprived of joining the institution of Wasiyyat. Many of them have also pledged that they will now become part of this system.

بعض دفعہ دیکھنے میں آیا ہے کہ بعض اچھے بھلے کھاتے پیتے لوگ ہوتے ہیں جو دوسری جماعتی خدمات میں بعض دفعہ جب ان کو کوئی تحریک کی جائے تو پیش پیش ہوتے ہیں یا کم از کم اتنا ضرور ہوتا ہے کہ جتنا زیادہ سے زیادہ حصہ لے سکتے ہیں اس میں حصہ لیں لیکن وہ نظام وصیت میں شامل ہونے سے محروم ہیں۔ ان میں سے بھی کئی لوگوں نے وعدہ کیا ہے کہ وہ اب اس نظام میں شامل ہوں گے۔ ایسے صاحب حیثیت لوگوں کو ایسے احمدیوں کو تو سب سے پہلے چھلانگ مار کر آگے آنا چاہئے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہم پر فضل فرمائے ہیں۔ ان کے شکرانے کے طور پر ہم اس نظام میں شامل ہوں تاکہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے فضلوں کے دروازے مزید کھلیں۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے جو ان پر نعمتیں نازل فرمائی ہیں ان کا اظہار ہونا چاہئے اورعلاوہ اپنے اپنے ذاتی اظہار کے۔ قربانیوں کی طرف توجہ دینے کا بھی اظہار ہونا چاہئے۔

Such affluent Ahmadis, more than anyone else, should be the first to step forward and say: Allah Almighty has bestowed His grace upon us; therefore, as an expression of our gratitude, we should join this institution so that the doors of Allah’s blessings may be opened even further for us. The blessings that Allah Almighty has showered upon them should be manifested—not merely through their personal expressions of gratitude, but also through their demonstrating their readiness to make sacrifices. I don’t have a support from my family

“On the day when a man flees from his brother,

And from his mother and his father,

And from his wife and his sons,

Every man among them that day will have concern enough to make him indifferent to others.” (80:35-38)

“Present a noble example before women, for they inwardly absorb all of your influences. When a husband remains steadfast upon the righteous path, the wife develops a reverence for him alongside her reverence for God. Therefore, a husband should set such an exemplary standard that his wife comes to believe that there is no one in the world as virtuous as her husband, and that he is one who observes even the finest and most delicate aspects of righteousness. Once a woman holds such a conviction, it becomes impossible for her to turn away from virtue.

“Men are guardians over women” (Al-Nisa: 36).

Thus it has been said that women are deeply influenced by their husbands. To the degree that a husband grows in moral strength and piety, his wife will inevitably partake of that virtue. Conversely, if he is corrupt, she too will inevitably be influenced by his corruption. (Malfuzat Vol 4 Page 318)

I will join Nizam e Wasiyyat after my financial condition improves

And he who fears Allah — He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he expects not. And he who puts his trust in Allah — He is sufficient for him. (65:3-4)

عورتوں کو اپنا اچھا نمونہ دکھلاؤ۔ وہ اندر ہی اندر تمہارے سب اثروں کو حاصل کرتی ہیں۔ جب خاوند سیدھے رستہ پر ہو گا تو وہ اس سے بھی ڈرے گی اور خدا سے بھی۔ ایسا نمونہ دکھلانا چاہئے کہ عورت کا یہ مذہب ہو جائے کہ میرے خاوند جیسا نیک اور کوئی بھی دنیا میں نہیں ہے۔ اور وہ یہ اعتقاد کرے کہ یہ باریک سے باریک نیکی کی رعایت کرنے والا ہے۔ جب عورت کا یہ اعتقاد ہو جائے گا تو ممکن نہیں کہ وہ خود نیکی سے باہر رہے۔ (الرجال قومون علی النساء : النساء : 36)  اسی لئے کہا ہے کہ عورتیں خاوندوں سے متاثر ہوتی ہیں جس حد تک کہ خاوند صلاحیت اور تقویٰ بڑھائے گا کچھ حصہ اس سے عورتیں ضرور لیں گی۔ ویسےہی اگر وہ بد معاش ہو گا تو بد معاشی سے وہ حصہ لیں گی۔

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, which charity earns the greatest reward?" He said: "That you give charity when you are healthy and miserly, fearing poverty and hoping to become rich. Do not delay (charity) until your soul reaches up to the throat and you then say: 'This is for so-and-so, and this is for so-and-so.' Lo, it has already come into the possession of so-and-so.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1419, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1032
