The Process, Step by Step

Apply & Contribute

  1. Start your application through the online member portal

  2. Read the detail

At the same time make the following two contributions through the chanda portal. Chanda Shart-e-Awwal and Chanda Ai‘lan-e-Wasiyyat categories are under the “Pick Other Chanda” dropdown. Save the receipts - these details will be entered into the application.

  3. Read the detail

Carefully provide all the necessary details in the application to avoid delays with Markaz before the application is processed.

Certify & Sign

  1. Important

Submission is only the first step

Submitting the online application does not mean your application is now complete. This is only the first step in the process. Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by a Wasaya team member for completeness.

  2. Your Secretary Wasaya certifies the application

Your local Secretary Wasaya is asked to complete their certification for the application

  3. Digital signatures are collected from all parties

    Read the detail

Upon the completion of these steps, emails are sent out to request digital signatures from you, your witnesses, attestors, and local office holders.

  4. Print and place your thumbprints

    Read the detail

After obtaining all the signatures, you will get notified that the application is now ready for you to print and place your thumbprints on it. You will need an inkpad for this. If you have not received such a notification, your application is either missing some signatories or awaiting input in an earlier step. Check your application status in the online portal at any time or you may check in with your local Secretary Wasaya for specifics.

  5. Read the detail

After both you and your witness have placed their thumbprints, mail the application to your headquarters in Maryland at the provided address. You can retain a copy for your reference.

    Mailing Address

    ATTN: Wasaya Department USA
    15000 Good Hope Road

  6. Read the detail

You can start making your Wasaya payments if you had selected the date of your application as the effective date. Until the status is Filed Markaz the application is not considered submitted. If you feel the application is not progressing, please reach to your local Secretary Wasaya to inquire about the delay.

Your Part is Complete Here

You have finished everything that is required for your application.
From here, the remaining steps are carried out by Markaz as they complete the final processing and approval of your application.

Final Processing & Approval

Application Being Filed to Markaz

Upon receipt at the headquarters, the Wasaya team will perform one more check of the physical copy received in the mail before submitting to Markaz for final processing leaving the application in the Filed Markaz state.

Once your application reaches the Filed Markaz state, it is officially with headquarters and considered submitted.

Acknowledgement From Markaz

After receiving your application, Markaz will send an acknowledgement letter that your application has been received and is being sent to Majlis Karpardaz for further procedure and final approval. The stated processing time is 15 months but typically the approval comes within a year.

You will receive written confirmation that your application is in review with Majlis Karpardaz. No action is needed from you during this period.

Receiving Wasiyyat Number

You will be notified in writing with the approval status along with your Wasiyyat number once your application is fully approved. Markaz may ask questions or clarifications before approving your application. Once approved, be sure to save the approval letter and Wasiyyat Number for your records. This is used for any future correspondence, payments, schedule C forms, etc.

Your Wasiyyat Number is your permanent reference for every future payment, Schedule C, and correspondence, so keep it somewhere safe.
